Mewar Festival
Mewar Festival is to welcome the Spring season with much gusto in Udaipur, Rajasthan.
With the celebration, the entire city of Udaipur goes into a festive mood. The markets and shops decorate their facade with different lights and enrichments. The festival takes place the same time as the Gangaur festival, pivotal for the womenfolk of Rajasthan. Thereby the celebration is done keeping the ladies in mind and offers them the ideal opportunity to dress themselves in their best garments when they come out to celebrate.
The ceremony starts with the ladies who gather to dress Isar (Lord Shiva) and Gangaur (Goddess Parvati). Once they are done with dressing the icons, they are onto palanquins and a procession is taken out where they pass through various parts of the city. At the end of the procession, they move towards the Gangaur Ghat at Pichola Lake. Here brightly decorated special boats await them, they are settled into the boats and carried into the deep waters of the lake, to be immersed.
